Requirements
- In a genuine relationship (married or de facto) with an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible NZ citizen
- Sponsored by that partner (sponsorship must be approved)
- Must be in Australia when you apply; family members applying with you must also be in Australia
- Meet health and character requirements
- No outstanding debt to the Australian Government
- Sign the Australian values statement
Application Steps
- 1Gather relationship evidence (relationship history, financial, household, social, and commitment evidence)
- 2Sponsor lodges the 'Sponsorship for a Partner to Migrate to Australia' form
- 3Lodge your subclass 820 application online via ImmiAccount while in Australia
- 4Complete health examinations and provide character/police documents
- 5Receive a Bridging visa A (BVA) if your current substantive visa expires first
- 6Wait for a decision — processing times vary; check the official visa processing time guide tool
- 7If granted, you hold subclass 820 until your permanent Partner visa (subclass 801) is finalised
